Elite Excavation Services handles excavation and demolition in Jeanerette, about 10 miles southeast of New Iberia down LA 182. The highway runs alongside Bayou Teche through town, and US 90 passes outside the city limits. Most of our work is residential demolition, followed by the dirt work a cleared lot needs. Call (337) 201-0594 for a free on-site estimate.
Jeanerette calls itself the Sugar City, and for nearly 200 years sugar production has been the backbone of its economy. By Census estimates, the median Jeanerette home was built in 1965, and about one in four was built before 1940. The town sits in Iberia Parish, and its southeastern edge is the St. Mary Parish line. Past the city limits, the land opens into cane country along the bayou.

Census figures show about two in three Jeanerette homes went up before 1980. More than three in four are single detached houses. When one of them is past saving, we take it down and leave the lot clean and level. Compact excavators and a compact track loader let us work close to the house next door.
The City of Jeanerette is running its own blight cleanup. In September 2026, KLFY reported a five hundred thousand dollar grant helping the city address about 40 blighted properties. Demolition was underway on roughly 20 of them through the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Clearance Program. A teardown on your own lot is a private job, and you can book it with us directly.
Every one of our old house teardowns in Jeanerette starts with the utilities shut off. The utility company, a plumber or an electrician handles that disconnect before our machines show up. We put in the Louisiana 811 notice at least 48 hours before work starts, as state law requires. LDEQ exempts a residential building with four or fewer dwelling units from asbestos inspection and notification rules, under set conditions.
Mobile homes are a big part of the housing here. Census figures count about one in six Jeanerette homes as a mobile home. When an old unit has to go, we handle the mobile home demolition and clear the spot. If a new home is going on that spot, we can build the pad and the gravel drive next.
Jeanerette's mayor told KLFY that rundown buildings raise the risk of flying debris in tropical weather. A rotted shed or a leaning garage out back is the same kind of risk. Our shed, garage and barn demolition work takes it down and hauls it off. If a slab sits underneath, we break it out and haul it to an approved disposal site.
Buildings along Railroad Avenue, also called Annie More Drive, sit in the Railroad Avenue Historic Cultural District. The area became a Louisiana Cultural District in 2024, and the city has a Historic Commission. Cultural districts can bring state historic tax credits for rehab work on revenue-generating historic buildings. If your building there brings in income, look into those credits before you plan a teardown.
Rain is the first thing to plan for in Jeanerette. A NOAA station 5 miles northwest of town averaged about 65 inches of rain a year from 1991 to 2020. The wettest stretch runs June through August, at more than 7 inches a month. Every lot here needs a plan for where that water goes once it hits the ground.
USDA describes the Jeanerette soil series as very deep and somewhat poorly drained, and water moves through it moderately slowly. USDA established it in St. Mary Parish in 1952, and its slopes are under 1 percent. In most years it stays wet below 1 to 2.5 feet from December through April. Most land in the series is cleared for pasture or crops like sugarcane.
On ground like this, a new home sits best on a raised house pad. Older yards that hold water may need land grading to pitch the rain away from the house. When water stands for days, our yard drainage and ditch work or a French drain gives it somewhere to go. Before you build, the Iberia Parish Permit Office can help you find your lot's flood elevation.
LA 87 is the second highway that follows Bayou Teche through town, alongside LA 182. Where a rural drive crosses a roadside ditch, the culvert under it has to carry the ditch's flow. We handle driveway culvert installation and then build or regrade the gravel driveway on top. A crowned drive with fresh rock sheds the water to the ditch.
When Jeanerette was incorporated in 1878, its economy ran on cypress lumber and sugar. Until this century the area had three active sugar mills. The one inside the city was closed and taken apart in the 2000s. Sugarcane is still a key part of the local economy, and the town is home to makers of cane equipment.
When a tract outside town grows up in brush, our land clearing on cane-country tracts opens it back up. We clear brush and small trees, then dig the stumps out whole with an excavator and backfill the holes. After a storm, debris removal works the same way, with roll-off containers and dump trailers. Louisiana permits Type III facilities for construction and demolition debris and woodwaste, and our loads go to a permitted site.
